Sheesh... did u read in the papers or hear on the news recently about the china milk scare?? apparently, milk produced by a china company has been found to contain MELAMINE. you know what's MELAMINE??? the chicken rice plate or fishball noodle bowl u use at the food courts, yeah, that's made of melamine. melamine is a substance traditionally used to manufacture plastics. and this irresponsible, unscrupulous, wolf-heart-dog-lung company added it to increase the protein content... WT...
i'm sorry but i don't like to buy china products. when i buy something, i always check where it's from and if it says "MADE IN CHINA" i'd think thrice. ibut in a world that's dominated by MIC products, it's really difficult to avoid that. so at least for FOOD, i try to avoid buying MIC stuff. i have the habit of always checking the label when i buy something. first for the country of origin, then for the ingredients. if it's says "produced in china", i'd almost always put it back. and for ingredients, words like fructose, sucrose, flavourings, preservatives and chemical names i can't pronounce freak me out really.
i have been to china twice (Beijing, shanghai, hangzhou, suzhou) and both times we went with a tour group because we were afraid of getting conned or robbed. when we were there shopping, we were told by the tour guide (in hangzhou west lake, where the tea is famous) not to buy any tea leaves from the peddlers because they'd show u a canister of tea leaves, you'd smell it n it's real Dragonwell tea but actually that's just the lop layer, underneath, it's some unidentified leaves... bleddy idiots. and we were also told to only buy bottled water at supermarkets because the peddlers there pick up empty bottles and refill them with water from unknown sources and screw them back on... i bought a Zisha tea pot in a tea house in west lake but i suspected it is fake because a few years after when i washed it, i realised the sponge was reddish in colour and when i looked on the inside, there were powdery stuff... sheesh.... and there is absolutely no price control. the same item can differ by twice at two different places, depending on your bargaining power.
so, i'm not really keen on visiting china... i'm scared of eating in china... you know, the chicken you see hanging at the store... is it REALLY chicken or it just LOOKS AND TASTES LIKE chicken... scary sia.
